The very first “real” concert I went to was Alanis Morrissette, back in the late 90’s. “You Oughta Know” (the “Since You’ve Been Gone” of the 90’s, I suppose) was in heavy rotation at the time. The opening act was a band fairly unknown stateside … an odd little group from Oxfordshire called Radiohead. Irony duly noted. Being fairly young at the time, I had yet to experience anything terribly angst-worthy, but I still appreciated Alanis’ lyrics and understood the probability of my heart getting smashed up at some point in the future.

While Radiohead’s career has since eclipsed Alanis, she’s had some hits here and there over the years. She’s resurfaced yet again with a new, angst-filled CD, after spending the past couple of years recovering from the “unraveling of significant relationships” (or something to that effect). Eh hem… I’m looking at you RYAN REYNOLDS… you naughty hottie . I caught an interview of her on CBS Sunday Morning where the conversation inevitably turned to her thoughts on her ex’s engagement to Scarlett Johansson.

Interviewer: “So, you wish them well?”

Alanis (with a tight smile): “I’m really happy for him”

Right.

Anyone with an ounce of good old female intuition knew exactly what she was thinking.

“Let’s see… he dragged on our engagement for four years, then got engaged to some bimbo less than 12 months after we broke up? Scarlett, I don’t care how much men swoon over your bongos. You’re in for one hell of a ride.”
